Voluntary Leader Training

If you are an adult voluntary leader or group of leaders in an organisation such as the Scout Association and you would like the opportunity to consolidate your bushcraft knowledge and/or practice your skills then join Jay at his woodland base camp nestled in the South Downs.  Jay offers both a one day intense course for those who have camping experience and a more relaxed weekend course for those that prefer to learn at a slower pace and/or have limited camping experience.

Both courses aim to explore:

  • Fire - Natural & manmade tinder, fire lighting – Including methods of creating an ember and blowing it to flame using a bow drill
  • Fire lays
  • Outdoor Water – Make the water you find safe to drink and put the kettle on for some natural tea
  • Woodcraft & tools – The safe use of the knives, saw & axe with the opportunity to carve a spoon
  • Seasonal Wild Food – Discover edible plants and other wild foods
  • Woodland animal & bird sign – Begin to read the clues they leave behind
  • Wood lore – Identify some native UK trees and look at their common uses
  • Common bushcraft shelters & knots
  • Cool craft – Discover some of natures secrets and make natural string or soap from tree

By the end of the course you should feel more in tune with the woodland environment and more confident in your ability to pass on these skills to the groups you are involved with.

Jay aim’s to promote a friendly & relaxed course that is both informative and fun.  The 1 day course is certainly more cost effective for voluntary leaders however it is very intense and is essentially aimed at providing you with bushcraft knowledge.  The day will consist of practical demonstrations, interactive theory sessions and group practical workshops. Both courses can cater for around 12 adults.  To keep the costs low the intense course is self catering and costs £50 per person however Jay will provide tea & coffee throughout the day.  The weekend course starts on a Saturday morning and finishes Sunday afternoon and covers the same curriculum as the one day intense, but there is more time to relax and practice the taught bushcraft skills.  This 2 day course costs £100 per person and it is partly self catering with participants asked to bring their own tent and a packed lunch for both days.

If you were looking to reward a colleague then gift vouchers are available on request.  These can be redeemed for up to 1 year from purchase.
