Description

The Rothschild Canticles (Flanders or the Rhineland), from the turn of the 14th century is a highly illustrated florilegium (anthology) of meditations and prayers. Marginalia can add to or illustrate the text they accompany, or be entirely unrelated; frequently including references to bodily functions, nudity, and bizarre or bawdy activities. The butt trumpet is a recurring theme, though not always played by humans.

A hard enamel pin with a design based on the marginalia of Beinecke MS 404, fol. 134r. It measures 45mm at its widest point and has a gold plated finish. Each pin comes on a backing card and with two black rubber clutches for added security and to avoid spinning. Made in the UK.

Orders of a full set of Marginalia Paraphernalia pins (either folio 1 or folio 2) will come with a free A6 sheet of stickers.

5% of all Marginalia Paraphernalia sales go to support Arts Emergency (registered charity no. 1152377).
